Mark Kunz has this week’s Buckeye Insider interview with Coach Myles now posted on YouTube. It was filmed very late Saturday night in a deserted and deflated Beaver Stadium, right after the Buckeyes took all the air out of those white balloons and pom poms in the double OT win.
Coach talks about how he and I first got hooked up to do this book. I remember the day well. I had called Bill to see if he had picked someone to do his book. When he answered, Bill paused a long silence, and then said, “I think I am going to have you do it!”
Well, after I picked up the phone off the floor, I told Bill, “I’ll be down tomorrow!”
Twenty-four hours later I was sitting at a card table in Bill’s family room. Bill started talking about Jackie Robinson, and Joe Louis, and Satchel Paige, and Tom, and Woody, and Bo, and Earl – and on and on. I just turned on my recorder and let him go! Little did I know then that would lead to 5 years, that would involve more than 100 hours of tapes, hundreds of stories, boxes of transcripts, reams and reams of drafts and edits and corrections. I have been truly blessed by the time spent collaborating with Coach and the opportunity for he and I to work together to transform all that to the published page, so that others might learn from the amazing life of this extraordinary man.
